Mental Health Accommodations in the Healthcare Workplace

We welcome Tom O'Day and Audrey Merkel from Husch Blackwell webinapresenters.

This session will explore healthcare employers’ obligations when responding to an employee’s request for a mental health accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Presenters will discuss key regulations and cases outlining employer responsibilities and best practices for accommodating employees facing mental health challenges.

     

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify best practices for handling accommodation requests, including for intermittent leave, given the unique patient-facing role of many of healthcare professionals.
  • Understand healthcare employers’ responsibilities to accommodate a request for accommodation for mental health reasons. 

  • Appreciate the complexities of the ADA and FMLA as they pertain to accommodations and leaves of absence. 

  • Learn key takeaways from relevant regulations and case law to mitigate risk of litigation.
